Modernizing Grant County’s network without the expense of a full system upgrade

Case Study

Grant County Public Utility Provider

Opportunity

Grant County Public Utility District (PUD) provides electricity, internet, & bandwidth wholesale services across Eastern Washington, but their 2008 built SONET network was struggling to keep up with customer demands. They needed to upgrade the network infrastructure to ensure a faster and more reliable compatible network for the future, but due to the original network design a customized solution was needed.

Challenges

Grant County PUD provides electricity, internet, & bandwidth wholesale services across Eastern Washington, but their 2008-built SONET network was struggling to keep up with customer demands. They needed to upgrade the network infrastructure to ensure a faster, more reliable, and compatible network for the future, but due to the original network design a customized solution was needed.

Solution

Kore-Tek audit and assessment provided the following network recommendations:

  • DCN network optimization to simplify network management
  • Optimize network timing to improve stability
  • Upgrade software for increased reliability
  • Clean up circuits to add network capacity without adding hardware

Results

Kore-Tek efficiently upgraded Grant County PUD’s network with a custom solution utilizing as much of the existing network infrastructure as possible. The network is now more resilient and has the capacity needed to support the county’s growing bandwidth needs.
