Long-Haul | DWDM | Open Line Systems | Carrier Transport
Remote + Field Engagements (Project-Based)
Kore-Tek is expanding its optical engineering bench to support legacy Infinera transport platforms across long-haul, regional, and carrier-grade fiber networks.
Infinera has been acquired by Nokia, but many production networks across the U.S. continue to operate on legacy Infinera architectures. We are seeking engineers with real-world experience designing, deploying, and supporting these platforms, particularly in long-haul and high-capacity environments.
This role also offers a unique opportunity:
Infinera engineers will help cross-train our broader optical team on Infinera systems while gaining exposure and cross-training on Nokia optical platforms.
What You’ll Work On
- Long-haul DWDM system deployments
- Regional optical transport expansions
- Open Line System (OLS) architecture
- High-capacity wavelength turn-ups (100G / 200G / 400G / 800G)
- Coherent optical integration
- Span engineering and amplifier design
- Optical performance troubleshooting
- Live network migrations and modernization efforts
Core Technical Expertise
Hands-on experience with:
- Long-haul DWDM architecture
- Flex-grid spectral planning
- Coherent optical transmission systems
- Optical power budgeting and span loss calculations
- EDFA and Raman amplification
- Optical protection schemes
- OSNR analysis and signal degradation troubleshooting
- Fiber characterization and OTDR validation
- Optical path and regenerator site engineering
Experience in networks exceeding:
- 500km+ spans
- Multi-degree ROADM environments
- High-channel-count DWDM systems
Infinera Platforms
Experience with one or more of the following:
- Infinera DTN-X Platform
- DTN-X with PIC (Photonic Integrated Circuit) technology
- Super-channels
- Infinera GX Series (GX XTM / GX Series Compact Modular)
- Infinera XTC Series
- Infinera Cloud Xpress
- Infinera FlexILS (Open Line System)
- Infinera mTera (legacy long-haul platform)
Strong familiarity with:
- Infinera PIC-based coherent optics
- Super-channel architecture
- Colorless, Directionless, Contentionless ROADM
- Regeneration strategies and optical grooming
Infinera Software & Management
Experience with:
- Infinera Transcend Network Management System

- Software lifecycle management and upgrades
- Optical telemetry and performance monitoring
Understanding of:
- GMPLS / ASON control plane (preferred)
- Layer 0 integration with IP/MPLS networks
- Optical APIs / automation interfaces (preferred)
Strategic Cross-Training Opportunity
Because Nokia has acquired Infinera, our environment includes both:
- Legacy Infinera production networks
- Nokia optical platforms (1830 PSS, 1830 PSS-8/16/24, 1830 VWM, etc.)
Infinera engineers will:
- Cross-train Kore-Tek’s optical team on Infinera architecture
- Gain exposure to Nokia optical transport systems
- Support modernization efforts where Infinera and Nokia ecosystems intersect
This is a high-impact role in a transitional technology landscape.
Who Thrives Here
- Engineers who understand long-haul optical design at a system level
- Professionals comfortable troubleshooting degraded spans under pressure
- Individuals who understand the physics — not just the CLI
- Contractors who operate independently and take ownership
- Engineers who value precision and disciplined execution
